Prescribed burn fire destroys Chilton Road property

WALNUT COVE — Weekend before last a prescribed burn that was being monitored by the North Carolina Forest Service ended up destroying a neighboring property, causing a family to loose a historic unoccupied home and two-story tobacco pack house, plus a smoke house.

The fire, which was being conducted on Friday, March 20, ended up blowing over to the adjacent property, and destroyed the pack house before it was extinguished.
