Five people were hospitalized with injuries in a fire at a duplex in the hill neighborhood of New Kensington early Sunday morning.
New Kensington fire Chief Ed Saliba said that a husband and wife and their three children escaped by going out of a window and onto the roof of the front porch on the McCargo Street side of the brick duplex.
The father had jumped first and the mother dropped the children to their father on the ground, but she broke her leg in the fall, Saliba said. A teenage boy sleeping in the basement was able to escape on his own, said Saliba, who did not know the name of the family.
