DNA experts identify John Doe found on Sonoma County beach — for second time

Four years after a family looking for shells on a Sonoma County beach instead found a human bone, officials have identified the remains with help from DNA experts at a genealogy nonprofit.

The John Doe was identified as Walter Karl Kinney, a 59-year-old former banker and Santa Rosa resident who disappeared in 1999, the DNA Doe Project said Thursday.
