Cause of Algoma Verity ship accident outlined in this NTSB report

A river pilot’s error was the probable cause of the costly grounding of a cargo ship in the Delaware River in January 2025, according to National Transportation Safety Board officials.

The pilot’s “expectation bias” likely led the 623-foot Algoma Verity to be stuck for three days a mile north of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, they said in an NTSB report.

The accident caused damage to the ship of $6.6 million, they said, but there were no injuries or pollution…
