The last two weeks of Lent, known as Passiontide, many churches drape crosses with purple fabric. Such is the tradition of Newlyn Street United Methodist Church. A black fabric will be in place on Good Friday and white on Easter Sunday. Also on Easter Sunday, the cross will be draped with flowers. That is such a lovely tradition.
Newlyn Street Methodist Church was organized in 1921 and rebuilt in 1954. When we visited on Saturday, we talked to a lovely, young adult member, Emoline, who grew up in Greensboro, talked about her church with great pride.
