Bossier offered $2M grant for sidewalk upgrade along deadly stretch of Barksdale Boulevard

A prospective $2 million project may improve walkability in a part of Bossier City that has proved dangerous for pedestrians in recent years.

The state Department of Transportation and Development has offered Bossier City a federal grant for a project to improve the sidewalks along the 5-mile stretch of Barksdale Boulevard from Central Park Drive to Westgate Drive. The City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether to allow Mayor Tommy Chandler to enter an agreement with the state on the project.

Currently, most of that part of Barksdale has either no sidewalks at all or highly degraded ones, and there are lots of so-called “desire paths” along the route — or areas where the grass has been worn out because pedestrians keep traveling over it. There is no connected sidewalk corridor to allow pedestrians to move up and down the full length of the road…
