Albany has long maintained a love-hate relationship with the “Steamed Hams” joke from a 1996 episode of “The Simpsons” that poked fun at the city, but one local business is embracing it in a big way.
Druthers Brewing Company announced that it will host Emmy-winning “Simpsons” writer Bill Oakley for a pair of hourlong events celebrating the 30th anniversary of the episode “22 Short Films About Springfield,” which first introduced the idea that Albany residents call hamburgers “steamed hams” — creating a rumor that locals have been struggling to debunk ever since.
The event was announced on the brewpub’s Facebook page and will be held April 14 — the day the episode originally aired in 1996 — at Druthers’ Albany location on Broadway.
