Ann Arbor schools weighing sinking fund renewal amid rise in construction costs

ANN ARBOR, MI – Leaders with Ann Arbor Public Schools will have some big decisions to make in the coming weeks before asking voters to weigh in on a potential renewal or restoration of the district’s sinking fund.

Voters first OK’d the district’s 2.5-mill tax in May 2017 to support its sinking fund and the district’s plan to raise $200 million over 10 years for school facility upgrades.

However, the state has since changed the rules governing how much funds can be raised and what that revenue can be spent on. AAPS officials say they need to consider what millage amount, what proposed terms and what election date they want to move forward with…
