Erie County leaders demand transparency in Shah Alam case, push ‘New York for All’ bill

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Advocates, lawmakers, and community members gathered outside the Erie County Holding Center on Monday, calling for support of the proposed “New York for All” bill and greater transparency from local law enforcement.

Assemblymember Jonathan Rivera says the legislation would prevent local law enforcement agencies from voluntarily collaborating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Supporters argue the measure is necessary to protect vulnerable communities and prevent future tragedies.
