Vanderburgh Co. Prosecutor talks about importance of ‘Susan Haynie Bill’

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – For the past several months, Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Diana Moers has been supporting House Bill 1250, otherwise known as the Susan Haynie Bill, which was just signed into law.

It would require the Indiana Department of Correction to notify local law enforcement, and victims, one week before a violent offender is released.

“It’s really unsettling as a prosecutor and as law enforcement to encounter someone and not have full information right away about who they are and what their background is,” Moers stated. “That helps us make decisions for safety and public safety and charging and things like that.”…
