Triggered smoke alarm brings fire crews to State Theatre, owners say all is ‘a-okay’

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A triggered smoke alarm brought Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) crews out to the State Theatre on Sunday.

“All is well and the theatre is a-okay! Long live The State,” owners said on Facebook in response to KDPS crews at the State Theatre on Sunday.

In November 2024, the Kalamazoo State Theatre announced they paused operations to shop new ownership, and in September 2025, nearly a year later, Dan Carmichael and Holly Carmichael announced their purchase of the theatre and plans to restore it, preserve it and “fill (the) halls with music, comedy (and) performances of all types.”
