St. Petersburg officials gave updates on downtown street conversions and port redevelopment at a Developer’s Council meeting Tuesday. The Transportation Department is hammering out an agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation to convert 3rd and 4th Streets to two-way thoroughfares.
Evan Mory, director of transportation for the municipality, explained the conversion can shorten trips for drivers. “It will shorten trips because drivers can go directly to the destination,” Mory said, according to the St. Pete Catalyst. “They don’t have to go past it and then come back.”
The effort is part of a multi-year initiative dating back to 2001. Officials want to update one-way streets downtown. Conversions on 1st and 2nd Streets, 2nd Avenue South, and Mirror Lake Drive have been completed.
