Breakdown of who is eligible for Washington’s new property tax exemption

WASHINGTON — A week after new legislation will expand who is eligible for property tax exemptions, counties are already working to determine who will qualify in 2027.

Starting in 2027, a person must be at least 61 years old, and meet certain disposable income thresholds, identified by each county, based on the median income in that county.

The new law will also create three levels. If an individual or couple’s disposable income falls into one of those levels, and they meet the age qualification, they will also receive savings on county or city levies in addition to the state property tax exemption…
