‘Speeds as high as 86 mph’: Center Point expands use of traffic cameras

CENTER POINT, Ala. (WBRC) – The city of Center Point is increasing enforcement against speeding drivers by installing additional traffic cameras along major roadways, including Center Point Parkway.

Mayor Bobby Scott said the move comes as a response to ongoing safety concerns, particularly near residential areas and schools. Over the past five years, three people have been hit and killed near City Hall, prompting city leaders to take action.

The speed limit along Center Point Parkway is 40 miles per hour, but officials say the newly installed cameras have already recorded drivers traveling more than 80 miles per hour.

“Our schools are in residential areas surrounded by homes, and a lot of kids walk across the street to get to their houses,” Scott said. “I’ve seen kids have to stop and freeze because cars are coming too fast.”…
