Comstock trustee says he won’t step down after 3 censures, disputes claims he broke rules

COMSTOCK, Mich. — A Comstock Board of Education trustee censured multiple times by his colleagues is speaking out, defending his actions and accusing district leadership of distorting events to push him aside amid broader disagreements over transparency, finances and student performance.

Dr. Richard Hathaway, who has served on and off the board for decades, said in a recent sit-down interview that he has no plans to resign despite escalating tensions and three censures issued against him in recent years.

“Before I start, I’d like to state that I’m speaking solely for myself,” Hathaway said. “One, I will tell you, I won’t step down. I was elected by the community to do a job. The job, however, has faced challenges from the board. I hold an elected position and they cannot remove me without a recall.”…
