Activists say teenager’s shin was broken during arrest at L.A. ‘No Kings’ protest

An activist group is calling for justice after one of their members sustained a broken shin during what they described as a “brutal” arrest during the “No Kings” rally in downtown L.A. over the weekend.

Seventy-five people were arrested after tensions escalated near the Metropolitan Detention Center during Saturday’s demonstrations, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Among them were 66 adults and eight juveniles – all arrested for failure to disperse after officials declared an unlawful assembly. Another person was charged with possession of a dirk or dagger.

In the wake of the arrests, Dare to Struggle, which describes itself as a “multinational organization open to anyone who wants to resist and stop injustice no matter who holds political office,” says that a 17-year-old member of their group was among those arrested and suffered a broken shin in the process, requiring hospitalization.

“Despite LAPD’s claims that there were no reported injuries from those arrested, one of our members, a 17-year-old, is on video being beaten by an officer while on the ground,” the group said in a statement.
