The Palos Verdes Estates Police Department has received several reports of checks being stolen from the mail, altered, and then cashed fraudulently. Officers and detectives are investigating these cases and working with the USPS to find those responsible.
Residents are advised to use electronic payments when possible, write checks with a black gel pen, and avoid leaving outgoing mail in residential mailboxes. Mail should be dropped off at a post office or handed directly to a clerk. Neighbors are also encouraged to monitor their bank accounts and report any suspicious activity right away…
