New law tracks repeat domestic abusers
Tennessee now runs the only public domestic violence offender registry in the country. The registry went live on Jan. 1, 2026, and anyone can search it for free online.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) maintains the database. Gov. Bill Lee signed the law in May 2025 after the state Senate passed it 32-0.
Lawmakers named it Savanna’s Law after a young deputy whose murder exposed how hard it was to find an abuser’s history.
