Yellow Alert Weather: Rounds of heavy rain and possible flooding on Tuesday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A Yellow Alert is up Tuesday for several rounds of rain and storms, which may produce gusty winds and heavy rain.

The first round of storms is possible first thing Tuesday morning. Severe weather isn’t expected, but locally heavy rain is possible in the strongest storms. Another round of storms is possible into the afternoon and early evening. This round has the greatest potential to produce strong to severe storms with gusty winds. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out, especially south of the Thruway, where the atmosphere will be more unstable and primed for severe storms.

Multiple rounds of rain may lead to 1-2″ of rain, which may lead to some creek and stream flooding, as well as low lying flooding. Make sure your sump pumps are ready to go! The Red Wings are also hosting their home opener on Tuesday at 4:05 PM, and that could be in jeopardy due to the rain. We’ll continue to update the forecast as needed.

Rain and storms will move south Tuesday night, leading to a cooler and cloudy day on Wednesday. We’ll see a few more showers, but the storm and flood threat will be out of here. That same boundary lifts north again on Thursday, allowing temperatures to slowly rise into the afternoon, especially away from Lake Ontario, with a few more showers…
