A Des Moines Man Arrested By Newton Police For Online Child Exploitation Awaits Sentencing

A Des Moines man who faced sixteen charges from an online child exploitation investigation by the Newton Police Department is scheduled to be sentenced May 11th. That sentencing date for 44-year-old Matthew Mark Powell has been set by District Court Judge Nicholas Bailey after a plea agreement. Court records show Powell will be sentenced on a class B felony sexual exploitation of a minor charge, a class D felony grooming charge, and an aggravated misdemeanor offense of phone dissemination of obscene material to a minor, first offense.
