Council to consider override vote on Mayoral veto requiring DC police to document federal agents during use-of-force incidents

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The D.C. Council will consider overriding a Mayoral veto during its Tuesday legislative meeting.

Earlier this month, the council unanimously passed the FAAR Act, which requires Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers to document the names of federal agents who work alongside them during a use-of-force incident or while making an arrest.

But last week, Mayor Muriel Bowser vetoed the bill.

“I vetoed Councilmember White’s bill because it’s an emergency that would require us to make immediate, upon going into effect, changes to MPD,” Bowser said on Monday. “It’s not easy to make those types of changes immediately.”…
