AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin and Travis County officials shared details on Tuesday morning about an upcoming emergency alert drill scheduled for later this week.
The drill will occur statewide and test local alert systems on Thursday, April 2, to ensure Texans can be alerted effectively during disasters and emergencies, according to the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).
TDEM is asking local authorities, school districts, universities, river authorities, law enforcement and other emergency agencies to participate in the drill and share a recap afterward on how it went. Designated testing windows have been set up for the different authorities and agencies. During the test, TDEM said cities and counties will use their primary, alternate, and contingency systems.
Austin and Travis County emergency officials want to prepare residents for the upcoming drill and share reasons why it’s important.
