Warren Buffett Enlists Stephen Curry to Teach Him Basketball, Partners on Charity Effort

SAN FRANCISCO – Legendary investor Warren Buffett, 95, is gearing up for a basketball lesson from Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. The two are collaborating beyond the court, combining their efforts to support families in need.

Curry, 38, recently returned to full practice after a knee injury and joked about preparing to teach Buffett some basketball fundamentals. “If not a permanent hoop, there’ll be a mobile one so I can help him with his form,” Curry said, adding he hasn’t yet seen any footage of Buffett’s jump shot to gauge his skills.

While Curry’s return to game action remains tentative-with at least two games missed this week-his focus has expanded to philanthropy. On June 24, the Currys and Buffett will host a charity lunch in Omaha, Nebraska, alongside a high-bidding supporter, aiming to raise funds for two key organizations: Buffett’s long-supported San Francisco-based GLIDE center, which offers social justice programs and daily meals, and the Currys’ Eat.Learn.Play. Foundation, which serves Oakland families with healthy meals, safe play areas, and educational resources.

This event marks the Currys’ first participation in Buffett’s “A Seat at the Table” auction, which has raised over $55 million since its inception in 2000. The online auction will run from May 7 through 14, with proceeds split between GLIDE and Eat.Learn.Play.

Curry expressed deep appreciation for the partnership, highlighting Buffett’s commitment to community service and the chance to raise awareness about ongoing needs. “Sometimes the greatest things in life happen when you don’t expect them,” Curry reflected. “An opportunity like this means the world.”

Their joint efforts underscore a shared dedication to leveraging their platforms for social impact while blending the worlds of sports, philanthropy, and community empowerment.
