Tiger Woods Breaks Silence After Florida Car Crash, Announces Career Hiatus
Tiger Woods, the iconic PGA Tour star, has issued his first public statement since his serious car accident on Jupiter Island last Friday, signaling a pause in his professional golf career. Posting on his social media platform Tuesday, Woods acknowledged the gravity of the situation and confirmed he will be stepping away to focus on his health and recovery.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods said. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health.
This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery. I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally.”
The crash involved Woods’ Land Rover flipping over while attempting to pass a truck on a Florida road. Authorities found Woods disoriented and sweating heavily at the scene.
Although a breathalyzer test showed no alcohol in his system, two hydrocodone pills-a prescription opioid for pain-were found in his possession. Woods declined a urine test during the investigation.
The crash resulted in approximately $5,000 in vehicle damage.
Woods has retained attorney Douglas Duncan, who represented him during his 2017 DUI case, and has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the incident. This marks the fourth automobile-related event involving Woods since 2009.
Prior to the crash, Woods had recently returned to competitive golf in the TGL league Finals after missing the entire 2025 season due to back surgery. His last official PGA Tour appearance was at the 2024 Open Championship, where he did not make the cut.
Woods’ longtime partner, Vanessa Trump, has not publicly commented on the accident, continuing to share unrelated updates on social media. As the golf world awaits further developments, Woods’ statement underscores his commitment to recovery and the uncertainty surrounding the timeline for his return to the sport.
