Birmingham spending $31.8 million on community projects: Here’s where money is going

From the Birmingham Zoo and the Civil Rights Institute to neighborhood sidewalks and public pools, areas spanning the city will benefit from nearly $31 million in new funding.

The city council Tuesday approved a package of initiatives from Mayor Randall Woodfin that are designed to touch nearly every sector of the city. The $31.8 million comes from a surplus from the fiscal 2024 budget.
