‘I’m asking everyone to have grace on her’ | Mentor of 14-year-old charged in I-64 DUI crash speaks out

HAMPTON, Va. — Authorities are continuing to investigate a tragic crash on I-64 in Hampton that left a one-year-old child dead and a 14-year-old girl facing serious charges.

According to the Virginia State Police, the crash happened on March 23 near the 261-mile marker on Interstate 64 East. Investigators said the teenage driver, a young mother, was under the influence at the time of the crash. She suffered serious injuries, and her infant child later died.

The 14-year-old is now charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license, and a child restraint violation. State police have said an additional charge is pending…
