Evansville Police Chief says crime rates are down

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – In the midst of a recent outbreak of shootings, Evansville Police Chief Philip Smith shared recent crime statistics with city leaders at Tuesday’s Rotary Club meeting.

“Last week was a busy week,” says Officer Taylor Merriss, Special Projects Coordinator for EPD. “And some people might think that was because it was Spring Break, or the weather is getting warmer. But when we look at this year, from January 1st to today, we’re actually down in shootings. Which some people may not realize.”
