Smorgasburg Flees Wynwood, Finds New Home In Flagler Village

Smorgasburg, the popular open-air weekend food market that helpaed turn Wynwood into a foodie magnet, is packing up its stalls and heading north to Fort Lauderdale’s Flagler Village. The new weekly market is set to debut the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12, with organizers promising dozens of vendors, music, outdoor seating and free entry.

According to the Miami Herald, the Fort Lauderdale edition will set up at 536 NE Second St. in Flagler Village. Organizers told the paper they expect the market to continue on weekends after opening as a regular open-air fixture.

Wynwood chapter closed amid redevelopment

Smorgasburg’s Wynwood run started in March 2022 and wrapped in late 2025 after the lot’s landlord moved ahead with plans for luxury condominiums, according to Miami New Times. The market had become a weekend habit for locals and tourists, so the closing landed like yet another “condos over community” moment in the neighborhood.

Organizers pitch Fort Lauderdale as the next chapter

Owner and CEO Gaston Becherano Cohen told the Miami Herald that Fort Lauderdale brings “so much variety, so much energy” and said the market’s mix of food, music and vendors creates “sensory overload in the best possible way.”

Vendors are already buying into the move. Melissa Saavedra of Steamy Lit told the Miami Herald that the Fort Lauderdale area “really craves community and outdoor things,” a gap Smorgasburg is clearly aiming to fill…
