Bella and Raza, two neglected horses rescued from the Santa Ana riverbed by Free Rein Foundation with help from Riverside County Animal Control and Mary Behrens, CEO of HCPEC, have made full recoveries after years of care. Bella, once fearful from suspected abuse in illegal horse tripping, now enjoys daily grooming and participates in equine-assisted therapy sessions. Raza, a former cart racehorse, has overcome severe anxiety and is being trained as a therapy horse at the foundation’s pastures in Huntington Beach.
