Jersey City’s Newest Speakeasy is Next to a Historic Bank Vault

There’s a new speakeasy opening on April 1st in Jersey City. No. 75 is located at 75 Montgomery Street inside Taste of North China, a Chinese restaurant. Owners Wendy + Brian chatted with The Hoboken Girl about their vision for the space and what guests can expect. Read on for more about No. 75, Jersey City’s newest speakeasy.

About No. 75

Owners Wendy + Brian have lived in Jersey City for six years and have backgrounds in corporate America. They said that their shared passion for hospitality drew them into the industry.

As for the space’s name and vibe, they said, “’No. 75′ is named after the building’s original bank address, tying the bar directly to its early-1900s roots. The numbered format echoes how many Prohibition-era speakeasies were typically named – simple, discreet, and easy to overlook. With the original, 120-year-old, 12,000-pound vault still in place, the name is an ode to the history of cocktails and the walls that house us.”

The bank vault is a key element of the space, and Wendy + Brian said that they designed the menu around it. “It’s truly a classic work of art which has stood the test of time,” they said…
