Middle TN landfill hit with multiple new violations, including windblown waste, as efforts continue to make the site even larger

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) -Rutherford County’s Middle Point Landfill has been hit with multiple new violations as efforts continue to verticalize the site, which has had thousands of odor complaints.

Community organization Rutherford Forward said Sunday that the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation issued the new violations on March 9. Among the violations are unsatisfactory litter control, with windblown waste observed beyond containment areas, unsatisfactory initial cover and ongoing monitoring of leachate conditions. The latter violation was issued despite no discharge going into stormwater ditches being seen at the time.
