Mid-Atlantic Christian University has honored 1978 alumnus Franklin McAllister for his decades of professional achievement, faithful service and continued dedication to mentoring the next generation of students.
McAllister, who is a native of Smithfield, Virginia, enrolled at Roanoke Bible College (now MACU) in August 1974. During his time as a student, McAllister built lasting friendships and demonstrated a strong work ethic in his academic pursuits, overcoming the challenges of dyslexia with determination and perseverance.
Following graduation, McAllister returned to Smithfield and began a 43½-year career with Newport News Shipbuilding. Throughout his tenure, he held numerous roles, including steel fabricator, welder, forklift operator and positions in the nuclear division, materials, and machine shop…
