DEA in California touts ‘significant blow’ to drug cartels

SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says it has dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking networks as result of “Phase II Operation Fentanyl Free America.”

Between Jan. 12 and Feb. 10, 2026, the agency said, law enforcement seized more than 4.7 million fentanyl pills and nearly 2,396 pounds of fentanyl powder totaling more than 57 million deadly doses of fentanyl, “narcotics that won’t find their way to communities across the U.S.”

“Cartels are intentionally poisoning Americans, driving the fentanyl crisis, and profiting from the misery caused by addiction,” DEA Special Agent in Charge James Nunnallee told Border Report. “DEA is actively seeking out the cartels, using every tool in our toolkit to eliminate the threat they pose to our communities. We continue to work with our partners every day to ensure San Diego is safe and a place our youth can thrive.”

During this thirty-day operation, the DEA says it also seized 147,797 pounds of cocaine, nearly 21,000 pounds of methamphetamine, more than 26 million methamphetamine pills, 1,183 pounds of heroin, 65,000 pounds of illicit marijuana, more than 1,500 firearms, and made more than 3,000 arrests nationwide…
