Great Neck man was charged with bribery, conspiracy to fast-track city projects

A Great Neck man who owns a Brooklyn construction company was one of four people indicted in a scheme where business owners gave bribes to a former New York City Building inspector to fast-track projects, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr. said on Monday, March 30.

Jih Yeuan “Mike” Hwang, 50, of Great Neck, was charged with bribery and conspiracy, according to the Manhattan DA.

Hwang, the owner of Hwang’s Construction Management Corporation, paid Jake Udah, a former supervisor at the New York City Department of Buildings, to influence more than 250 construction approvals between June 2021 and March 2025, according to court documents and statements made on the record in court. Hwang paid Udeh between $500 and $1,000 in cash for each construction project, and also paid for international travel expenses, including hotel rooms and flights to Paraguay and Japan, which totaled to over $65,000 in benefits, court documents said…
