San Antonio Judge Locks Up Child Predator For Life Without Parole

A San Antonio judge on Monday handed down a life sentence without the possibility of parole to John Xavier Garcia after a jury convicted him of continuously sexually abusing a child. Garcia also received a 20-year sentence for indecency with a child by contact, leaving him with no path back outside prison walls.

In a release, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said Garcia was sentenced by Judge Kristina Escalona of the 186th District Court following a jury verdict in January, as reported by News 4 San Antonio. “This sentence reflects the seriousness of these crimes and the lasting impact they have on victims,” District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. Prosecutors told the court that evidence at trial included the victim’s testimony, extensive counseling records, and messages they said showed ongoing manipulation right up until Garcia’s arrest.

Under state law, continuous sexual abuse of a young child is a first-degree felony punishable by life or 25–99 years, according to Texas Penal Code §21.02.
