MADRID, Iowa (KCCI) – More than a dozen small-town newspapers in Iowa are on the verge of ending publication completely. The closures are raising concerns from residents about the future of local journalism and the preservation of community history, KCCI reports.
Mid-America Publishing announced it would cease operations April 2. Papers in Postville, Monona, Clarksville, Parkersburg, Grundy Center and Sigourney are at risk. The company’s president told KCCI this is due to the lack of profit and company debt.
