Spokane to add four Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons

SPOKANE, Wash. — Four new Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons (PHB) will be added in Spokane as the city rolls out the Arterial Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons project, a “citywide initiative to improve pedestrian safety on high-traffic arterial roads,” according to the press release.

PHB’s, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation, is a traffic control device that is designed to help pedestrians safely cross roadways outside of intersections. These are crosswalks that have traffic lights to alert drivers of a pedestrian crossing a busy road when not at an intersection.
