Big Boy locomotive won’t be coming to Schenectady as part of Union Pacific tour

SCHENECTADY — Union Pacific does not have plans to bring its Big Boy locomotive to Schenectady as part of its tour of eastern states this summer.

Local railroad buffs were hoping that Union Pacific would make the Electric City part of its summer tour to recognize America’s 250th birthday this July. But a list of stops announced by the company this month makes no mention of the city where the train was manufactured.

Big Boy, which is 133 feet long and weighs 1.2 million pounds, is one of 25 such locomotives made at American Locomotive Co. in Schenectady…
