Louisville mayoral candidate wants to undo city-county merger

For mayoral candidate Jody Hurt, many of Louisville’s most pressing issues come back to the 2003 city-county merger.

Hurt, a classical musician and educator, is running on a platform to make public buses fare-free, build thousands of additional affordable housing units and improve the city’s snow response. But he said Louisville’s merged government makes doing any of that more difficult.

“Twenty odd years later it has delivered blurred authority, diluted voter representation, misaligned spending priorities, and a government too large and diffuse to execute on any of them clearly,” Hurt wrote in his campaign platform…
