Missing Hopewell man found dead in Caroline County. Police say he was killed

Authorities in Caroline County say they have recovered the body of a Hopewell man who went missing last week and whose disappearance had been labeled “suspicious.”

In a statement late on the evening of March 31, the Caroline County Sheriff’s Department said the body of 18-year-old Jayden McComber was discovered in a marshy area around a pond near Sparta, a town close to the Caroline-King & Queen County line. The pond is about five miles from where a woman’s body was found off Bagby Road March 27, but the sheriff’s office did confirm that “based on evidence gathered this far,” the two deaths are connected.

At the time of the discovery of the woman’s body, Richmond television station WTVR reported that McComber’s family said McComber’s Air tag had last pinged near the site.

McComber, of the 2500 block of Richmond Street in Hopewell, was last seen leaving his residence on the night of March 25. Hopewell Police reported at the time of his disappearance that his truck had been tracked to several locations across central Virginia and the Tidewater region, including Caroline County…
