Hazardous Materials Response Underway at Lompoc Federal Correctional Complex

Emergency responders are investigating a hazardous materials incident Monday afternoon at the federal correctional complex on Klein Boulevard in Lompoc, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

County firefighters are working alongside the Lompoc City Fire Department at the low-security, federally operated facility, one of two prisons in the area northwest of Lompoc. The complex and adjacent minimum-security camps house more than 2,000 inmates.

At 2:05 p.m., the county fire department posted on social media: “Santa Barbara County Fire Department (@SBCFireInfo) is currently assisting the City of Lompoc Fire Department (@LompocCityFire) with a hazardous materials investigation in the 3900 block of Klein Blvd in Lompoc. No additional details are available at this time. Any updates will be posted here as they become available.”

Officials did not immediately release information on the nature of the hazard, its source, or whether any injuries occurred. The public PulsePoint app, which displays some emergency response activity, was not showing incidents in the area…
