Jasper Co. Sheriff speaks on federal operation in Ridgeland

JASPER COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — New details are emerging after federal law enforcement was seen serving warrants along with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office in Ridgeland.

According to Jasper County Sheriff Chris Malphrus, the warrants served at a Ridgeland Hispanic store over the weekend were in connection with a months-long investigation involving an organized cockfighting operation. According to authorities, the operation involved illegal gambling and was connected to criminal activity, including firearms and narcotics.

Residents near the area of Sweet William Road reported seeing federal agents Saturday at a local Hispanic store, La Poblanita Fresh Market. This was after the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office shared on social media that they were going to be executing search warrants in the area…
