A new coffee shop and grocery in Mid City Baton Rouge has vintage furniture, local honey and more

Inside Government Street’s newest coffee and grocery store, every item seems to have a story behind it.

Las Brujas Coffee and Grocery soft-opened on March 22 at 3101 Government St., Baton Rouge, in the same building strip as Elsie’s Plate & Pie. Owner David Villa sells coffee and an expanding inventory of organic grocery products from local businesses.

“We really hang our hat on the coffee program and the local grocery program,” Villa said.

The interior is composed of a hodgepodge of local art and secondhand items sourced from Facebook marketplace, curbside pickups, estate sales and thrift stores. Think vintage, wooden furniture found in your grandmother’s house next to warm lamp lighting and flower arrangements from a Baton Rouge flower farm, Mist and Mallow. Shelves hold photography prints, and on the walls hang hand-stitched fiber artwork…
