West Pullman Homicide Man Killed, 86 Shell Casings Recovered

Late Monday morning on Chicago’s Far South Side, a 26-year-old man was gunned down in West Pullman in what police say involved an extraordinary amount of gunfire. He had been standing in the street in the 800 block of West 122nd Street when he was hit multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene shortly after noon.

Authorities later identified the victim as Jajauan Thigpen, 26, of the Garfield Park neighborhood. He was shot at about 11:55 a.m. and pronounced dead at 12:04 p.m., according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Responding officers found what they described as an unusually large number of shell casings scattered across the roadway, with about 86 recovered at the scene as Area 2 detectives launched their investigation.
