OWANA Studies Proposed TownLake YMCA Development

The TownLake YMCA has posted information about the proposed development of its land north of Cesar Chavez St. and west of Lamar Blvd. The plan includes three residential towers up to 425 feet tall (with 750 units) and a new YMCA facility. These towers would be the first high-rise towers west of Lamar Blvd. in the central city. Their height would equal that of The Spring Condominiums across Lamar at 300 Bowie. They would raise impervious cover from 56% to 95% and use adjacent parkland for stormwater detention.

Steve Amos, president of The Old West Association Neighborhood Association (OWANA), says that in keeping with the group’s mission, its Steering and Zoning Committee is reviewing Millennium Partners’ Planned Unit Development (PUD) zoning for the redevelopment of the 4.8-acre site. They are focusing on the environmental, traffic, and parkland impacts of this proposed development. Formal recommendations will be provided to city staff. Input from neighbors, city departments, and stakeholders is being gathered.
