Albuquerque man who carried out kidnapping-ransom scheme sentenced

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man was sentenced to federal prison for kidnapping his former boss and holding him for ransom in 2018.

Jose Ramirez, 47, was found guilty of multiple charges, including conspiracy to kidnap, kidnapping, conspiracy to carjack, carjacking, using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and extortion in December 2025.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico, Ramirez, 47, targeted his former employer, a 68-year-old business owner who had fired him years earlier for theft. Ramirez and two other people went to the victim’s home in Placitas where they ambushed and attacked him…
