Horses, pigs seized during animal abuse investigation in Tolleson; 1 horse euthanized

TOLLESON, AZ (AZFamily) — Deputies are investigating a case of animal abuse at a West Valley home, where a horse had to be euthanized, and several other animals were rescued on Tuesday morning.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office announced that animal crimes detectives are serving a search warrant for an animal abuse case near 99th and Southern avenues in Tolleson.

Photos shared on X showed several horses that were severely malnourished, and one horse had an open wound on its body.

Deputies say that due to the severe neglect and lack of emergency medical care, one horse was humanely euthanized. Two others were also found severely neglected and are receiving emergency treatment.

Four pigs were also found and removed from the home. Deputies say one of the pigs had a badly injured foot.

“We had detectives investigating another egregious animal cruelty case. I just want to let everybody know here in Maricopa County, in our county, we will not tolerate animal abuse in any way, shape or form,” Maricopa County Sheriff Jerry Sheridan said in a video posted on Facebook…
