SPD new ‘Gun Task Force’ aims to decrease gun violence by 10%

SPOKANE, Wash. — According to SPD data provided to NonStop Local, of the 11 homicides in Spokane in 2025, nine involved a gun. That’s 82%.

“Shootings are a problem in Spokane and they can become deadly very quickly,” Spokane Police Chief Kevin Hall said. “In many instances, its a matter of inches of whether its a deadly shooting or not.”

Hall presented updates on the task force to City Council on Monday, highlighting the senior officers already selected to lead the unit. Next, Hall explained, is looking at patrol officers to fill the task force…
