Flock Camera contract automatically renewed in Troy

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Troy’s camera contract with Flock Safety has automatically renewed. Mayor Carmella Mantello says the renewal of the technology is a result of the Troy City Council failing to vote on the matter before the March 31 deadline.

“Today marked the final deadline for the Council to act on this contract. Because no action was taken, the Flock ALPR Camera contract has automatically renewed,” Mantello said in a statement. “As we continue utilizing this critical law enforcement resource, the City will issue a new Request for Proposals (RFP) in 2027 to evaluate additional ALPR camera providers and ensure we are using the best tools available for our community.”

The Council tabled the resolution on renewing the two-year contract at its finance meeting on March 19 in order to gather more information on the agreement. Over 100 residents came to the meeting to voice concerns with how the Automated License Plate Reader cameras are or could be used.
