PENINSULA, Ohio – Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad’s popular Steam in the Valley event will return June 5-7 and June 12-14.
The event features one of the last operating mainline steam locomotives in the U.S. — the Nickel Plate Road No. 765.
The locomotive was built in 1944 by the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio, according to a news release. The 2-8-4 Berkshire-type locomotive was designed for speed and heavy freight service along the Nickel Plate Road. During its heyday, it was known for its power, efficiency and iconic whistle.
